Today I have for you my review of The Unspoken Name by A.K.Larkwood. This review has been delayed as life has been difficult recently as we all know. I regret that I haven’t posted this earlier as it is a fantastic read and everyone should read it.
The Unspoken Name is the story of Csorwe and her journey away from the Shrine of the Unspoken and her debt to the gods.
What if you knew how and when you will die?
Csorwe does — she will climb the mountain, enter the Shrine of the Unspoken, and gain the most honored title: sacrifice.
But on the day of her foretold death, a powerful mage offers her a new fate. Leave with him, and live. Turn away from her destiny and her god to become a thief, a spy, an assassin—the wizard’s loyal sword. Topple an empire, and help him reclaim his seat of power.
But Csorwe will soon learn – gods remember, and if you live long enough, all debts come due.
I really enjoyed this one which should come as no surprise to those who know of my reading habits.
I’ve really enjoyed the journey that Csorwe has been on in this book, she grows and changes throughout the book and becomes more confident as she experiences what the world has to offer. She meets a varied cast of characters while in service to her wizard which I won’t mention here as I don’t want to spoil it for anyone. Some of those she meets are important to her narrative and they change the course of her life.
The writing in this book is amazing, it draws you in and makes you keep reading. The magic and religious system is really interesting as well. It directly links the magic that is done with the patron gods however for some users it is hard for those far away from their gods to use it.
I highly recommend this to those of you that love a great fantasy story and this is only the first in the series and I cannot wait to see where it takes me.
Let me know if you’ve read it and what you think.
** Many thanks to Pan Macmillian and the author for the copy of the book. All opinions are my own.**
